Artatrana Boxy: The judgement day

Today, I met Sri Artatrana Boxy at Sambalpur. He was a licensed Hunter. During his hunting career, he has killed one RBT, 2 tigers, 3 man eating bears, 3 rogue elephants. He has also hunted many other animals. But killing the Royal Bengal Tiger near Jharsuguda in 1987 is most outstanding. The police forces and the osap officers had already spent more than 300 bullets but in vain. He was a man eater. Govt approached Sri Boxy. Boxy went alone and could locate the RBT inside bushes and through presence of mind and valore, could kill the rbt in a single shot. Had the bullet missed, then he would have long gone from the face of the Earth forthwith. The tiger would have killed him with in seconds.

The lineage of Boxy is mainly military. His forefather was late Ramachanda Boxy. He was the military chief ( Senapati )of the king of Sambalpur. He was from Khurdha.

Every thing has an end. So there is a beautiful story about the end of hunting career of Sri Boxy. In 2002, when they were residing at Mohanty para, Sambalpur 2 cats had a ferocious fight. Sri Boxy tried to stop the fighting by beating them with some handy objects. In the process, his fore finger was entangled with a hook and was injured. He was taken to hospital. 4 stitches were done.He got ok with passage of time but his finger was stiff. He could not pull a trigger to hunt.

He thought for many day . Suddenly, it was clear that, probably God wanted him to end his hunting for which the trigger happy finger was damaged.

He stopped hunting. Sold all his guns. Started fish farming. Now, near Baraipali he has a farm house of 15/16 acres. And staying. His date of birth is 1.6.47. still, looks very young.

Happy to have spent my time with such an illustrious person like Sri Artatrana Boxy. The day of the cat fight was the judgement day and 4 stiches in the trigger pulling finger was the judgement of God.
